epic Diode Laser

Two of the most common conditions in dentistry include Periodontal Disease and Crooked Teeth.  Periodontal Disease is an active infection in the gums that must be treated by a professional.  A common misconception is that a patient can brush or floss a little extra, but toothbrushes and floss can not reach the bacteria that have now burrowed pockets around our teeth.  When left untreated, periodontal disease can lead to a number of other conditions including tooth loss.  By using traditional procedures such as Scaling and Root Planing combined with our advanced technology diode lasers and medicinal irrigation we can rid you of the bacteria that is causing the infection!

Project Independence (PI) is a nonprofit organization founded right here in Orange County, CA in 1977!  The organization is based just down the road from us in Costa Mesa.  Project Indepedence focuses on helping people with developmental disabilities live independent and productive lives by securing jobs and housing for the clients.  The Core Programs include:

Costa Mesa Dentist Talks Tooth Sensitivity

What causes tooth sensitivity?

Do you experience an occasional zing throughout the day?  Sensitivity to hot and cold?  Or constant dull, achy pain?  These are all signs you are suffering from tooth sensitivity.  Tooth sensitivity can be very unpleasant and also be a sign of a more serious dental condition.  If you’re experiencing tooth pain, Orange County Dentist Dr. Jeremy Jorgenson can help!

Tooth Sensitivity causing Dental Pain

Tooth Sensitivity causing Dental Pain

Tooth sensitivity can come in many forms and from many causes.  You can simply be sipping in air, taking a bit of your lunch, or trying to concentrate at work and you notice that something doesn’t feel right.  Tooth sensitivity, also called dentin hypersensitivity, can occur when the outer layers of the tooth, the enamel and cementum, become thin and expose the dentin layer underneath.  When dentin is exposed, the tooth root and nerve are closer to the surface and more likely to become irritated.

For Dental Implants, Costa Mesa Comes to Advanced Dental Care

dental implantsA long time ago, losing a tooth was an exciting occassion. Remember? You put the tooth under your pillow, the tooth fairy came while you were sleeping, and in the morning.. CASH! As an adult, tooth loss is not an exciting occassion. The reasons for tooth loss—severe decay, injury, damage, periodontal disease and infection—are all quite serious. Missing teeth can cause bone loss and really impact how you feel about your smile. Replacing missing teeth is essential to both your oral and overall health. There are several options for tooth replacement such as dentures or a multi-unit crown and bridge, but for the most functional and aesthetic results, dental implants are the preferred choice.

Wisdom Teeth Removal explained by Costa Mesa Dentist Dr. Jorgenson

By Libby Dahl

I wanted to write a blog post about my recent wisdom teeth removal experience.  When I was younger, I had a gap in between my two front teeth.  I was always told that when my wisdom teeth came in the gap would close itself.  However, around age 16, my wisdom teeth still had not come in.  I went through a dramatic and socially devastating 9 month traditional braces treatment in 10th grade, but my gap was finally closed.  At some point in my 20s, I grew two wisdom teeth on the top only.  At first they did not bother me, but since I did not have bottom wisdom teeth, the top ones super-erupted and were longer than my regular molars.

Wisdom Teeth

Over the last few years as long work days and stress increased, I began grinding my teeth at night and clenching which cause the super-erupted molars to dig into my cheeks and gums.  Just before Christmas, our hygienist Lisa Thurm was cleaning my teeth and informed me that I had two large cavities on each of my wisdom teeth.  I told her that I had no idea, because I hadn’t experienced any pain, and that it was hard to get my toothbrush back there.  The last straw was during the holidays.  My jaw, teeth, and cheeks had just about had it.  I finally asked Dr. Jorgenson if he could pull them for me.  I help patients with wisdom teeth removal all the time, but never had experienced it myself.  I have heard of many different experiences from wisdom teeth removal that seemed extreme and unpleasant; however, I knew I was in excellent hands with Dr. Jorgenson.  I wasn’t nervous, but at the same time wasn’t sure what to expect.
